1. Union Government launches Lucky Grahak Yojana, Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana to promote digital payments:
  • The Union Government has launched Lucky Grahak Yojana to encourage consumers and Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana to encourage merchants for transition to digital payments
  • The schemes are aimed at encouraging people to move towards significantly higher usage of digital transactions through the offer of incentives.
  • 15 thousand lucky winners have been announced, each of them will get Rs. 1000 and the amount will be transferred in their accounts.
  • A Similar draw of lots will be held over next 100 days.
2. India successfully test-fires nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-5:
  • India successfully test-fired its home-grown long range intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-5
  • The state-of-the-art surface-to-surface missile was test fired successfully from the launch complex 4 of the Integrated Test Range from the Abdul Kalam Wheeler Island off Odisha coast. 
  • Agni 5 is three-stage solid propellant ICBM indigenously developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
  • It is about 17 metre long, 2 metre wide and has launch weight of around 50 tonnes. 
  • The missile is capable of striking a target more than 5,000 kilometres with nuclear warhead carrying capacity of more than 1 tonne.
3. Assam CM launches Atal-Amrit Abhiyan in Assam:
  • Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal has launched 'Atal-Amrit Abhiyan' at a function.
  • The initiative is a health assurance scheme which will give comprehensive coverage for six diseases and cover all individuals in eligible families with annual income below Rs 5 lakh. 
  • 437 diseases are covered under this scheme.
4. Odisha govt to launch DAMAN programme for malaria control:
  • The Odisha government has decided to launch a new malaria control programme DAMAN (Durgama Anchalare Malaria Nirakaran) with a total spending of Rs. 120 crore for five years.
  • The programme will be implemented in 8 thousand villages of all 79 blocks of eight high malaria endemic southern districts - Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nuapada and Kandhamal.
  • The programme will benefit around 80 lakh high-risk population of the State.
5. Maharashtra CM Fadnavis to launch Transform Maharashtra initiative:
  • Today, the Chief Minister of  Maharashtra  Devendra Fadnavis will launch an initiative Transform Maharashtra in IIT Bombay's Mood Indigo festival.
  • Mr Fadnavis will have a conversation with students on his vision for Maharashtra.
  • Under the initiative, the state government is planning to reach out to one crore youth.
6. India’s first 2G Ethanol Bio-refinery set up in Punjab:
  • The foundation stone for India's first second generation ethanol bio-refinery to be set up by Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) at Bathinda in Punjab at a cost of Rs 600 crore .
  • The foundation stone laying ceremony will be held at village Tarkhanwala, in Bathinda district of Punjab.
7. Scientists develops first Biological Pacemaker using Human Stem Cells:
  • Scientists from Canada have developed the first functional pacemaker cells using human pluripotent stem cells.  
  • The cells can regulate heart beats with electrical impulses. It paves the way for alternate biological pacemaker therapy. 
  • Pluripotent stem cells have the potential to differentiate into more than 200 different cell types that make up every tissue and organ in the body.
8. Scientists identify as world’s most heat resistant materials:
  • A team of UK-based researchers have identified Hafnium carbide (HfC) and Tantalum carbide (TaC) as the world’s most heat resistant material. 
  • They can withstand record melting point temperatures up to 3958°C (approx 4000°C). 
  • Hafnium carbide (HfC) and Tantalum carbide (TaC) are refractory ceramicse. they are extraordinarily resistant to heat. 
  • Researchers found TaC melted at 3,768 degrees Celsius, and HfC melted at 3,958 degrees Celsius
9. Kuchipudi performers dance their way into Guinness Records:
  • Classical dance of Andhra Pradesh  "Kuchipudi" found a place in the Guinness World Records when a record 6,117 dancers came together to present a show in Vijayawada.
  • 'Jayamu Jayamu' item presented in unison by the participants created a new record and handed over a certificate to the Chief Minister of  Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu.
  • Dancers from across the country as also from countries like US, UAE, UK, Russia, Hong Kong and Mauritius took part in it.
10. SBI adopts village of Maharashtra for Aadhaar-based payments:
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has adopted Shirki village in Pen taluka in Maharashtra for driving the Aadhaar-based merchant payment initiative. 
  • Under the initiative, the merchants in the village have been provided with simple android phones with a USB-based fingerprint capture device.
  • The merchant is required to have a bank account with an Aadhaar number needed.
11. Mithun Chakraborty resigns from Rajya Sabha citing health reasons:
  • Actor-turned-politician  Mithun Chakraborty has resigned from the Rajya Sabha ( from Trinamool Congress) on health grounds.
  • Mr. Chakraborty was sent to the Upper House by the party in 2014 and his presence in the House has been minimal.
  • He made his acting debut with the art house drama Mrigayaa (1976), for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor.
12. Pankaj Advani won National title in 6-red Snooker:
  • Sixteen-time world champion Pankaj Advani ended the year on a high by bagging the National title in 6-red snooker.
  • Starting off as the favourite, Advani lived up to the expectations and reclaimed the title, which he had won during the inaugural edition in Bengaluru in 2010. 
  • In the final, Advani prevailed over local youngster Ishpreet Chadha 7-4 to clinch the title.
