1. Real Madrid wins Champions League:
  • Real Madrid won Champions League in penalty shootout by 5-1 and defeated Atletico Madrid.
2. Sunil Bharti Mittal receives 2016 Harvard Alumni Award:
  • Bharti Enterprises founder and Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal received 2016 Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award.
  • The award is presented annually since 1968 and is the highest honour given to any alumni of the institute.
3. Discus thrower Seema Punia qualifies for Rio Olympics:
  • Asian Games discus throw gold medal winner Seema Punia on Sunday qualified for the Rio Olympics with a 62.62 m effort at the Pat Young’s Throwers Classic 2016 at Salinas (California) in the United States.
  • Seema Punia is the 19th Indian field athlete to have qualified for Rio Olympics.
4. Trial run of Talgo train with speed up to 115 kmph conducted:
  • The trial of Spanish train Talgo, the lighter and faster vehicle whose speed goes up to 115 kms per hour, was conducted between Bareilly and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh as part of the Railways’ strategy to increase the speed of trains.
  • Besides reducing travel time, Talgo’s lighter trains consume 30 per cent less energy.
  • The nine-coach Talgo train consists of two Executive Class cars, four Chair Cars, a cafeteria, a power car and a tail-end coach for staff and equipment.
5. PMO website launched in six regional languages:
  • The official website of Prime Minister's Office is now available in six major regional languages, including Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali.
6. Tech Mahindra to buy Target Group to strengthen UK BFSI space:
  • Software services firm Tech Mahindra on Friday said it will acquire UK-based Target Group in around 120 million pound deal to strengthen its presence in the banking and financial services space.
7. Kiran Bedi takes oath as Puducherry Governor:
  • Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi has taken oath as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, a post which was under the additional charge of Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Island for nearly two years.
  • She is the 24th Lt Governor of the Union Territory.
  • Chief Justice of Madras High Court Sanjay Kishan Kaul administered the oath of office.
