1. Pinarayi Vijayan sworn in as Kerala CM:
  • Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Pinarayi Vijayan has taken oath as the 22nd Chief Minister of Kerala with 18 ministers at the central stadium in capital Thiruvananthapuram.
2. Lenovo to 'Make in India':
  • Lenovo the world's largest PC maker is looking at setting up a new plant in country and is exploring factory options in Telangana, Andhra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and UP.
  • lenovo is the world's larget PC vender(20.7%), followed by HP, Dell, Apple &Acer.

3. Union Cabinet gives approval to five new IITs:
  • Five new IITs will come up at Tirupati, Palakkad, Dharwar, Bhilai, Goa and Jammu while ISM Dhanbad will also be upgraded to an IIT.
  • The approval will bring six new Indian Institutes of Technology within the ambit of The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 and declaring them as the institutions of national importance.
4. India, Japan MoU on sustainable, stable and low-carbon thermal power development:
  • The Union Cabinet gave approval to the MoU between Indian and Japan for promoting sustainable, stable and low-carbon thermal power development in India.
  • The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will help India in formulating suitable policies and developing technologies involved in producing sustainable, stable and low-carbon thermal power.
  • The agreement will support Clean Coal Technology (CCT) for thermal power plants such as Ultra Super Critical (USC) and other environmental technologies.
5. World First Humanitarian Summit held at Istanbul, Turkey:
  • The first-ever World Humanitarian Summit was held in Istanbul from 23 to 24th May since World War II.
  • The summit was inaugurated by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and hosted by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and attended by world leaders of UN member states.
  • The purpose of summit were World leaders to be committed to improving the humanitarian responses to crises. preventing and ending conflict, respecting the rules of war, addressing forced displacement, achieving gender equality, responding to climate change, ending the need for aid,  and investing in humanity.
6. US engineer Frances Arnold wins Millennium Technology Prize:
  • US biochemical engineer, Frances Arnold has won the Millennium Technology Prize for her work 'directed evolution' in Finland.
7. Freecharge names Kunal Shah as chairman, and Govind Rajan as CEO:
  • Snapdeal-controlled digital payments platform FreeCharge has named Kunal Shah as chairman, and Govind Rajan as Chief Executive Officer.
  • FreeCharge was founded in 2010 by Kunal Shah and Sandeep Tandon and was acquired by Snapdeal in April 2015.
8. UNODC launches inaugural World Wildlife Crime Report:
  • The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on 24 May 2016 launched its inaugural World Wildlife Crime Report. The report highlights how the poaching and illegal trade of thousands of different species across the globe present real environmental dangers.
  • The report was developed by UNODC with data provided by partner organizations under the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC), including the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the World Customs Organization (WCO).
9. Govt Releases Draft Rules Of Juvenile Justice Act 2015:
  • women and child development(WCD) minister Maneka Gandhi released the draft rules i.e. No child between 16 and 18 years of age in conflict with the law will be handcuffed or sent to jail or lock-up, according to the draft rules of Juvenile Justice Act 2015.
  • According to the draft rules, proper medical and legal aid will be provided to juvenile criminals and their parents and guardians will be duly informed and every state government is required to set up at least one ‘place of safety’ for the rehabilitation of such children.
10. Newly elected AIADMK MLA 'S.M. Seenivel' passes away:
  • SM Seenivel, a newly elected MLA of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in the new Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed away in a private hospital in Bibikulam in Madurai. He was suffered a stroke a week ago.
  • He was 65 year old and elected as MLA from Thiruparankundram constituency in Madurai in the 16th May election.
11. Your Rajdhani ticket not confirmed, book on Air India:
  • Train passengers, who could not take their journey because of unconfirmed ticket, will now be able to fly Air India flights at the fare that will be similar to AC first class fares of trains.
  • Any passenger, who could not get a confirmed ticket, will be given option of booking in Air India flights over the next twenty four hours. The fares will be AC first fares for AC first class passengers and AC II passengers will be charged AC II fares plus Rs 1500.
12. Union HRD Ministry to launch ASMITA, student tracking system:
  • The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD)  has decided to launch ASMITA, a student tracking system programme.
  • ASMITA is acronym for All School Monitoring Individual Tracing Analysis and shall be launched under Shala Asmita Yojana (SAY).
  • SAY aims to track the educational journey of school students from Class I to Class XII across the 15 lakhs private and government schools in the country.
13. Govt renames disability dept- 'divyang' replaces 'viklang':
  • The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities will now be known as 'Divyangjan' Sashaktikaran Vibhag in Hindi and dropped the word 'viklangjan' from its previous nomenclature.
14. India signs US$100 mn loan agreement with World bank:
  • The Government of India signs US$100 mn loan agreement with World bank (IBRD) for the Karnataka Urban Water Supply Modernization project.
  • The agreement has signed by Shri V. Ponnuraj, Managing Director, Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development & Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) on behalf of the Government of Karnataka and Mr. Michael Haney on behalf of the World Bank.
15. Andhra Pradesh to introduce e-Office system in all districts:
  • Andhra Pradesh, is set to take another giant step by introducing e-Office system in all districts.
  • e-Office will be introduced on a pilot basis in all 13 districts in June followed by a full-scale launch in July, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced at the two-day conference of district collectors here today.
