1. AYUSH Ministry launches Swasthya Raksha Programme:
  • The Union AYUSH Ministry has launched ‘Swasthya Raksha Programme’ to promote health and health education in villages
  • The programme was initiated through Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) and Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS). 
  • Objectives of Swasthya Raksha Programme are Organize Swasthya Parikshan Camps, Swasthya Rakshan OPDs and Health and Hygiene awareness programme, Create awareness about cleanliness of domestic surroundings and environment and provide medical aid and incidental support in the adopted villages and colonies.
2. Miss Puerto Rico clinches Miss World 2016 crown:
  • Miss Puerto Rico Stephanie Del Valle (19-year) was crowned Miss World 2016 at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland(USA).
  • Del Valle previously won Miss Mundo de Puerto Rico 2016.
  • First runner-up was Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramirez of the Dominican Republic followed by Miss World Indonesia Natasha Mannuela.
  • India's Priyadarshini Chatterjee also reached the top 20. 
3. Union Power Ministry to launch GARV-II Mobile App to monitor rural electrification programme:
  • The Union Power Ministry is going to launch new mobile application GARV-II to provide real time data of all six lakh villages of the country
  • The purpose of the mobile application is to ensure transparency in implementation of rural electrification programme. 
  • GARV-II mobile app has incorporated village-wise; habitation-wise base line data on household electrification for all states.
4. The Union Minister Vijay Goel inaugurates conference on Youth Development:
  • The union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel has inaugurated the Conference on Youth Development in Delhi.
  • He urged youth to perform to the best of their ability in various sectors like community development, education, social justice and entrepreneurship among others.
  • The Youth Development conference was organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and National Yuva Kendra Sangathan.
5. World’s first Goat with superfine wool cloned in China:
  • The world’s first cloned goat bearing superfine Cashmere wool was born in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
  • The goat will be raised in a base for animal husbandry research conducted by experts from agricultural universities in southwest China’s Yunnan Province and Inner Mongolia.
6. Priyanka Chopra becomes Assam tourism brand ambassador:
  • BJP led Assam government has roped in Bollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra as the brand ambassador of state tourism. 
  • She will promote brand entity of "Awesome Assam"
  • Chopra will visit Assam on December 24 and address international tour operators meet.
7. Telecom Ministry to launch Tarang Sanchar portal check radiation compliance of mobile towers: 
  • The Department of Telecom (DoT) will soon launch ‘Tarang Sanchar’ portal that will let users check radiation compliance status of mobile towers and transmitters across country. 
  • Using this portal user can also request to get a particular BTS tested by DoT to assess its electro-magnetic frequency (EMF) compliance level.
6. Post-Harvest Festival ‘Thal Favang Kut’ Celebrated in Mizoram:
  • The ‘Thal Favang Kut’ festival of Mizoram, which marks the completion of weeding of the farmland by cultivators in the state, was held in Aizawl with enthusiasm and fervour from December 15-17, 2016. 
7. Goa celebrating 55th Liberation Day:
  • Today, Goa celebrates its 55th Liberation Day.
  • Goa was liberated on this day in 1961 from Portugues rule.
  • The main state-level function was held at Athletic Stadium in Bambolim where Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has unfurled the national flag.
8. YES Bank, Ola tie up to provide cash at your doorstep:
  • YES Bank, India’s fifth largest private sector bank has partnered with Ola, one of the popular mobile apps for transportation, to provide cash-on-demand at customer’s doorstep
  • Customers will be able to use the Ola app to book a cab and opt for ‘cash at their doorsteps’ that will be enabled using Point-of-Sale (PoS) machines powered by YES Bank.
9. Former Planning Commission member Saumitra Chaudhuri passed away:
  • Former Planning Commission member Saumitra Chaudhuri passed away in Sir Ganga Ram hospital on 18th December. He was suffering from lung cancer. 
  • Chaudhuri, a noted economist, joined the Planning Commission as Member in June 2009.
10. Atletico De Kolkata win ISL title for 2nd time in three years:
  • Atletico De Kolkata has won Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament for the second time in three years in Kochi.
  • The Kolkata team scored four goals against the three by Kerala Blasters in the penalty shootout.
11. India beat Belgium 2-1 to win the hockey junior World Cup:
  • India beat Belgium(2-1) to win the Hockey Junior World Cup after a gap of 15 years at the Major Dhyan Chand Astroturf Stadium in Lucknow (UP).
  • This is India’s second world title. Earlier, India won their first title in 2001 in Hobart, Australia.
