1. Sachin Tendulkar's name to be used in Kerala Government's Anti-Drug Campaign:
  • Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has agreed to a request of  Kerala government to use his name in a campaign against drug and liquor abuse in the state.
  • This was stated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after Mr Tendulkar along with three other co-owners of the Kerala Blasters Football Club (KBFC) met him at the state secretariat.
  • Tendulkar has given consent to use his name to strengthen the campaign against liquor and drug abuse in the state.
  • KBFC has agreed to set up a residential Football Academy to train young talents in the state.
2. Rahul Johri assumes charge as first ever CEO of BCCI:
  • Rahul Johri has assumed charge as first ever chief executive officer (CEO) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Mumbai. 
  • He was appointed on the recommendation of the Justice Lodha Committee.
  • He will report to the BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke and will be based at headquarters of BCCI in Mumbai.
3. Union Cabinet has approved MoUs with USA:
  • a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and United States (US) to enhance cooperation in the field of wildlife conservation and combating wildlife trafficking.
4. India, Qatar signed MoU on tourism:
  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Qatar for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism.
  • It will also help in encouraging public and the private sectors to invest in tourism and exchange visits of tour operators/media/opinion makers for promotion of two way tourism.
5. Union Cabinet approves MoU between DGCA and French Civil Aviation Authority:
  • The Union Cabinet on 1 June 2016 gave its ex-post facto approval to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India (DGCA) and the French Civil Aviation Authority.
  • It will be beneficial for enhancement of skills and expertise of DGCA’s officers.
  • The MoU would be for a term of four years.
6. Cabinet clears India Post's payments bank proposal:
  • The Union Cabinet has given its approval for setting up the India Post Payments Bank as a Public Limited Company under the Department of Posts.
  • The total architecture of postal payments bank is of rs. 800 crore which will have Rs. 400 crore equity and Rs. 400 crore grant.
  • It will be run by Chief Executive Officer and has plans to have 650 branches operational by September, 2017.
  • The India Post payment bank will start 5,000 ATMs for the easy use of facilities.
7. Union Cabinet approves Proposal for Extension of Corridor-1 of Chennai Metro :
  • The Union Cabinet on 1 June 2016 approved the proposal for Extension of Corridor-1 of Chennai Metro Rail Phase-I Project from Washermanpet to Wimconagar.
  • It covers a length of 9.051 km at a total cost of 3770 crore rupees and scheduled to be completed by March 2018.
  • The project will be executed by the existing SPV of Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu having 50:50 equity of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd.
8. TRAI launches mobile app for subscribers to register complaints against pesky calls, SMSes:
  • The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a mobile application for telecom subscribers to register their complaints against pesky calls and SMSes to tighten the noose on telemarketers.
  • The new mobile app will help people in easily filing complaints and help the authority in monitoring such activities.
  • The SMS option was not available for pesky calls.
9. Prime Minister releases National Disaster Management Plan to make India disaster resilient:
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released the National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP). The plan aims to make India disaster resilient and reduce loss of lives.
  • It is the first of its kind of national plan prepared in India. It emphasizes on a greater need for Information, Education and Communication activities to prepare communities to cope with disasters.
10. ICICI Bank cuts lending rate by 0.05%:
  • Country’s largest private sector lender ICICI Bank has cut its marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) by 0.05 per cent, to take it at par with the rates offered by SBI and HDFC Bank.
  • This will help reduce the rate of interest to new borrowers.
  • The bank will give out overnight loans to new borrowers at 8.95 per cent.
  • While the one-year MCLR, to which its housing loans are linked now comes down to 9.15 per cent.
  • RBI introduced the MCLR system from April 1 this year for faster transmission of its policy actions by the lenders.
11. Governmment Approves 51 km Mau-Tarighat New Railway Line Project:
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for a new broad gauge line between Mau Station of North Eastern Railway and Tarighat Terminal station of East Central Railway.
  • The total length of this new broad gauge line will be 51 kilometers. The estimated cost of the project is Rs.1765.92 crore and expected completion cost is Rs.2109.07 crore with 5 percent escalation per annum.
  • The project is likely to be completed in the next six years.
12. India gifts 2,000 bicycles to poor dalit girls in Nepal:
  • India has gifted 2,000 bicycles to poor dalit girls in different government schools of Nepal to encourage them to enrol in schools and enhance the literacy rate among them.
  • The bicycles gifting programme received a total financial assistance of NRs 13.65 million by the Government of India under its Small Development Project scheme.
